Community Garden Advocacy Campaign
Grow Food. Grow Community. Protect What We’ve Built.
Community gardens are vital to the health and resilience of Edmonton—but recent cuts to municipal funding have put their future at risk. These gardens are more than just plots of land. They are spaces where people grow food, build relationships, and reconnect with nature and each other.
At Sustainable Food Edmonton, we’ve supported over 90 gardens across the city with grants, coordination, and education. Now, we’re launching a citywide advocacy campaign to restore funding and build new support so our gardens—and the communities they nourish—can continue to thrive.
What’s at Stake:
Affordable access to fresh food during a cost-of-living crisis
Land access for renters, newcomers, and those without yards
Mental health, connection, and inclusive green spaces
Food education, sustainability, and biodiversity in urban neighbourhoods
What We’re Doing:
Launching a petition to demand restored municipal funding
Rolling out public storytelling, videos, and social media campaigns
Engaging with candidates during the 2025 election to prioritize gardens
Hosting events, media outreach, and a sponsor/donor campaign
How You Can Help:
Together, we can ensure that community gardens remain strong, supported, and central to the future of our city.
