Breathe: Edmonton's Green Network Strategy

Why BREATHE? Parks and open spaces are vital to a community’s health. These spaces provide places for people to play, gather, grow food, learn about nature and celebrate. Citizens share these spaces with wildlife and plants. These spaces are also part of the city’s infrastructure network. Because Edmonton Metro is projected to nearly double in population from 1.2 million people to 2.1 million people by 2050, the City has embarked on a process to plan the city’s green network to meet the needs of growing communities.

What is BREATHE? BREATHE is a transformative strategy to make sure that as the city grows, your neighbourhood will be supported by a growing network of open space for the next 30 years. The plan will be based on a “network approach” that will support the connection and integration of a green network at the site, neighbourhood, city and regional scales. Some of the plan’s recommendations will be city-wide, and others will be neighbourhood-specific—based on the demographic, diverse needs and type of usage that we are seeing today, and expect to see tomorrow.

The City needs everyone’s help to plan vibrant places in our neighbourhoods to gather, play and relax. This is your opportunity to share your thoughts and vision for our city’s green network.
